She was built for Rotterdam - New York service.
In May 1940 seized by the German Navy and was used as an accommodation ship for submarine crews at Gotenhafen and Hamburg.
In 1945 badly damaged by bombing at Hamburg and partially burnt out.
In January 1946 returned to HAL, was repaired at Amsterdam and later continued on her old route.
She was scrapped in 1953 by Bethlehem Steel Co, Baltimore, the USA.
